Federal Signal Controls has chosen Wizzard Software's offering of AT&T Natural Voices Server Edition Software Development Kit to use in TERRA, their 3rd-generation SCADA platform (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition). Federal Signal Controls is a division of Federal Signal Corporation, a $1.2 billion provider of quality products to municipalities worldwide for over 100 years. Released in 2004, TERRA is designed to provide a streamlined, flexible solution for remote SCADA applications. Alarm notification capabilities, including voice, pager and e-mail, are an integrated feature of the latest version of TERRA. Although TERRA can be used in a variety of markets, there is a heavy focus on the municipal water/wastewater market for this type of SCADA system. TERRA is ideal for pump stations, water storage sites, lift stations and more that require monitoring and control. When an alarm condition is recognized, the TERRA Server will contact response personnel via telephone based on the User's preferred configuration. The TTS product is used to translate configurable (text) alarm messages into intelligible voice. For example, loss of pressure (at a user-defined level) in a water distribution system is a usually a critical condition. Alarms are displayed at HMI (Human Machine Interface) workstations in central facilities, such as the water treatment plant, but if no personnel are on-site, an alarm callout procedure commences to contact on-call personnel by phone, pager or e-mail.
